The Bachelor of Design in Product Design at Somaiya School of Design prepares students to become thoughtful, compassionate designers who can solve complex problems using design thinking. The program is built around solution-led learning, not rigid design silos. Students learn to design across physical, digital, strategic, and service contexts while focusing on how to think, not just what to make.

4 Year Journey

The programme stands on four core pillars: Design, Technology,
Entrepreneurship and Humanities. Each year is strategically curated
to help students build skills across these pillars while gradually
finding focus and direction.

The first two years establish a strong multidisciplinary foundation,
grounding students in design fundamentals along with design
thinking, research, hand skills and digital tools. In the third year,
students choose one of three specialisations after exploring multiple
design domains, alongside electives and design lenses. The final year
shifts focus from learning frameworks to independent practice,
bringing together thinking, making, and responsibility through
sustained, real-world engagement.

Block-Based Delivery

In the first two years, learning at SSD is organised into focused blocks,
each spanning approximately two to three months. Every block is structured around a real-world design challenge, allowing students to engage deeply with a curated set of courses at a time rather than doing everything at once.

Design challenges are chosen in response to pressing global and local concerns, encouraging students to apply what they learn to contexts designers actively work within today. Exam Cell

The Exam Cell at Somaiya School of Design is responsible for
executing examinations of the Bachelor of Design programme.
It is part of the Center of Examination (CoE) of Somaiya
Vidyavihar University.

The Examination Cell is a confidential and integral unit that
oversees the entire examination process of the institute. It is
responsible for the preparation and display of examination
timetables, coordination and smooth conduct of in-semester
and end-semester examinations, preparation of result gazettes,
and the execution of all examination-related activities.

The Examination Cell functions diligently, fairly, and
systematically to meet student and academic requirements,
ensuring transparency and efficiency at every stage.
All examinations are aligned with the academic calendar
of Somaiya Vidyavihar University.

Online Verification

For confirmation of educational verification of our alumni by an employer or higher education Institute directly or through a hiring agency can send their request to the administrative officer of the college at ashwini.darvesh@somaiya.edu.

Requests without payment of requisite fees will not be considered for further processing.

Transcripts & Alumni Services

Alumni may avail academic records such as transcripts, duplicate marksheets, and degree certificates by writing to Ashwini Darvesh at ashwini.darvesh@somaiya.edu.

In-person Transcripts

Alumni may visit the institute to apply for transcripts by carrying the required documents, paying the transcript fee at the Accounts Department, and submitting the documents to Ms. Ashwini Darvesh. In the case of offline applications, submission of documents, payment, and collection of transcripts must be done in person.

Online Transcripts

Alumni may email the required documents in PDF format to ashwini.darvesh@somaiya.edu. Transcript processing fees can be transferred via NEFT using bank details shared separately. Ms. Ashwini Darvesh will coordinate with the Accounts Department, process the request, and either electronically submit the transcripts to relevant agencies (such as WES, IQAS, etc.) or arrange for courier delivery to the alumnus.
